What's Included
If your garage door opener is more than 15 years old, you're missing out on a generation of improvements in noise reduction, safety, and convenience. Today's openers are quieter, smarter, and more reliable than anything from even a decade ago. At Flatirons Garage Doors, we install new openers from trusted brands like LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Genie, and we'll help you pick the right one for your home.
The biggest decision is the drive type. Belt drive openers are the quietest option — perfect if you have living space above or next to the garage. Chain drive openers are the most affordable and extremely durable, making them a great choice for detached garages. Screw drive openers have fewer moving parts, which means less maintenance over time. Beyond the drive type, modern openers offer features that genuinely make life easier: WiFi connectivity lets you open, close, and monitor your door from your phone. Battery backup keeps the door working during Colorado's power outages. And built-in LED lighting and motion sensors add security without extra wiring.
Our installation process is straightforward and usually takes about 2 to 3 hours. We handle the old unit removal, mount and wire the new opener, program your remotes and keypads, and set up the smartphone app if your model supports it. Our Process
Consultation and Selection
Call us at (720) 810-1615 and tell us about your garage and what you're looking for. We'll recommend an opener based on your door's size and weight, noise preferences, and smart feature needs.
Remove the Old Opener
On installation day, we start by disconnecting and removing the existing opener, rail, and hardware. If you don't have an existing opener, we'll prep the ceiling and header for a fresh install.
Install and Configure
We mount the new opener, install the rail and trolley, connect the safety sensors, and program all your remotes and wall controls. For WiFi-enabled models, we'll get the app connected to your phone on the spot.
Test and Teach
We run the door through multiple open and close cycles, test the safety reverse, and walk you through everything — how to use the remotes, the app, the keypad, and the manual release in case of a power outage.
New Garage Door Opener Installation FAQ
What's the difference between belt drive, chain drive, and screw drive openers?
Belt drive openers use a rubber belt and are the quietest — ideal if your garage is near living spaces. Chain drive openers use a metal chain and are the most affordable and durable. Screw drive openers use a threaded steel rod with fewer moving parts, meaning less maintenance. We'll help you choose based on your noise tolerance, budget, and garage setup.
Do I need a WiFi-enabled garage door opener?
You don't need one, but once you have it, you won't go back. WiFi openers let you open and close your door from anywhere using your phone, send alerts if the door is left open, and let you grant access to family or service providers remotely. It's one of the most practical smart home upgrades you can make.
How long does a new opener installation take?
Most installations take about 2 to 3 hours, including removal of the old unit. If we're installing where no opener existed before, it may take a bit longer for the initial mounting and wiring.
Will a new opener work with my existing garage door?
In most cases, yes. We'll verify that your door is in good condition, properly balanced, and compatible with the new opener. If your door has issues like broken springs or a bent track, we'll address those first so the new opener runs smoothly.
What happens to my garage door during a power outage if I have a new opener?
If you choose a model with battery backup, the opener continues to work normally during an outage — typically for several open and close cycles. Without battery backup, every opener has a manual release cord that lets you disconnect the door and open it by hand. We show you how to use it during installation.
